#SLB28Days Artist Spotlight: Toni Braxton

To kick off Black History Month, I decided I would blog for all 28 days of this month. There's just one month out the year that's dedicated to honoring black excellence, but let's go beyond these short 28 days. I want my blog to honor those that have paved a way whether it was in TV, radio, film, music, literature, etc. I also want to shine light on individuals who are taking great strides in their own way to uplift the community, and positively empower one another.

The first artist I chose to start my #SLB28Days of blogging is R&B singer-songwriter Toni Braxton. This seven-time Grammy® award winning entertainer is one of my favorites, and she’s the epitome of strength. She’s faced many challenges professionally and personally, but she remains on top and most importantly a champion. Ms. Braxton is a great example of getting knocked down one hit after the next, and yet, still rising above and taking charge of her true destiny.

Recently, Lifetime’s Original Movie and Braxton teamed up to create a biopic titled “Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart.” I recommend not only watching the movie, but buying Braxton's memoir titled the same. “Un-break My Heart” released in 1996, is easily one of Braxton’s most beloved and recognizable songs from her long list of classics. I have many favorites, but I think “Why Should I Care,” "You Mean The World To Me," and “Give U My Heart” are my top picks. In 2014, Toni and her ‘musical husband’ Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds came together to create the album “Love, Marriage, and Divorce” (Motown). This duets album garnered Braxton her 7th Grammy award in 2015. I just appreciate the amazing catalog of music Ms. Toni Braxton has given the world. Her voice is indescribable and she's a person that should be cherished while she’s living. Toni Braxton is simply a legend and SLBWunder is proud to salute this awesome woman!
