January is up and so are the New Year resolutions.
Or so I thought.
For me, I never bought into the cliche "New Year, New You" spiel, but there's good in the concept. New year, new changes. That's my spin on it. Two weeks ago I wrote a list of all the things I want to improve about myself, and I'm still pressing on.
Change is good and it's effective when you're serious about getting healthier. I think that's why I'm so proud of myself for changing my eating habits and exercising more.
Take a look at what I've done to keep my goals consistent for 2018.
Exercise:
- If you have an Apple watch, Fitbit, or any device that tracks movement, put it to use. Every step and workout counts.
- Utilize Youtube. I make playlists of high energy songs, and use my Apple watch to start my "dance" workout. For 6 songs straight I dance and you'd be surprise the amount of calories you burn, without even realizing.
- Walk outside for 30 or more minutes a day. I love the smell of fresh air.
- Every time you watch TV, do squats or jog in place during the commercials.
Food:
- Drink water. Say no to soft drinks.
- Replace milk with either Almond milk or Soy milk. I chose the latter and it's definitely an acquired taste, but I'm used to it now.
- Cut pork and red meats.
- Eat fresh fruits as snacks throughout the day.
- Limit bread intake. Instead of two pieces of toast, eat one.
- Buy diary-free ice-cream. My favorite brands are So Delicious and Ben & Jerry's.
These changes are pretty subtle, but overtime you'll notice the changes and feel great about yourself. Comment below if you've already incorporated any of my suggestions!
